Prahlada is a character from the
Puranic texts of
Hinduism, wherein he is famed for his exclusive devotion (
bhakti) to
Vishnu, despite attempts in the story by his father,
Hiranyakashipu to turn him to the contary. He is considered a
mahajana, or
great devotee, by followers of
Vaishnava traditions and is of special importance to devotees of
Narasimha avatar. A philosophical treatise is acredited to him in the
Bhagavata Purana wherein Prahlada describes the process of loving worship to his lord, Vishnu. The majority of stories in the Puranas are based around the activities of Prahlada as a young boy, and thus he is more commonly depicted as such in paintings and illustrations.
After tolerating much abuse from his father Hiranyakiashipu, Prahlada is eventually saved by Vishnu in the form of Narasimha, the half-man, half-lion
avatar .
In the Bhagavad Gita (10.30) Krishna makes the following statement in regards to Prahlada, showing his favour towards him:
"Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlada, among subduers I am time, among beasts I am the lion, and among birds I am Garuda."
Prahlada is counted amongst the demons because of the nature of his father Hiranyakashipu.
...358.... Samayajnah –"Knower of all six systems of philosophy," or it can mean "One who knows the exact time (samaya) for creation, preservation and destruction." Or, it can also mean "One whose worship (Yajna) is nothing more than keeping an equal vision of the mind by the devotee"
Thus no wonder that in Chapter X of GITAJI has 45 verses , Lord Krishna describes His Divine Manifestations just like Prahalada in demons, Time in reckoners , Lion in quadrupeds , Garuda in birds , Lord Vishnu in sons of Aditi ,Sun among luminaries, Lord Shiva among Rudras , Lord Kartikeya among army-Generals , OM among sacred syllables , sage Narada among Devrishis , Lord Kapila among Sidhdhas , king among men, Lord Sheshnaag among serpents , Lord Rama among warriors , holy Ganges among streams ,spirituality among sciences , holy Gayatri mantra among hymns , Arjuna amongst Pandavas , Lord Vedvyasa among Munis and so on... ..Lord Sri Krishna is very happy whenever......
SRI NARSINGH BHAGWAN is Family-deity of Saint Manoharji .. 6 am stuti of Sri Nathji fame and thus Manoharji keeps a fast in celebration of His Deity's appearance day i.e. Narsingh Jayanti . He and all devotees also visit Sri Narsingh Temple in Vrindavan ... even at age of 88 ! . Once Vivekanandaji asked Swami Ramkrishna Paramhansa why Lord Narasimha does not appear now when there are so many demons worse than Hiranyakashipu in the world now ? Swami Ramkrishna Paramhansa smilingly answered "There is not a single Prahlad to invoke Him.Prahlad had absolue FAITH in God being in everything including the pillar. We do not have that faith!"
